By definition, childhood poverty is the state of a child living in poverty. This happens all over the world to families who cannot take care of their children and not having enough money to feed them. Another reason they child may be in poverty is because of limited resources in the country/ state they live in. Childhood poverty also happens in orphans in under developed countries because they are not top priority when it comes to their childhood development.
how poverty is measured
Poverty is measured by the amount of income a person makes. Though children do nit have jobs or make money, their families income is measured. For a child in the system (an orphan), poverty is measured by how well they are fed, clothed, and so on. It is hard to account for an orphan in a lesser developed country due to the fact that there is no one in the system to help them (example:feed them). But back to the children who have children who are in poverty, it is mainly their parents who determine whether they are in poverty or not.
Effects on a child
The effects on a child who suffers from poverty will have a large amount of issues. For one, they could possibly die due to malnutrition and lack of vitamins. Also, the children who grow up in this type of poverty normally live this was for the rest of their lives. This happens in lesser developed countries because it is very difficult to leave the country or have a normal life. This will also put a mental effect on the child because they will grow up thinking that poverty and constantly being hungry is a normal thing. Sometimes it is not a parents fault but sometimes it is, so it is important to keep that in mind when researching child poverty. Also, some children who experience this could be run aways, and they could understand what they are going is not the best option in regards to their safety.
Conclusion
To end child poverty is a big statement. There may never be a solution because there are so many kids in the world in different situations. Some have poverty issues by choice (runaways), but then there are some that cannot help it. I think it is important to continue funding for childhood poverty. But then again I think it will be a very big battle to fight. To help end childhood poverty, you can go to www.nccp.org to donate or learn more on what you can do.
